Every maintained school in England is subject to routine inspections from Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills).  Ofsted reports directly to Parliament and are independent and impartial. They inspect and regulate services which care for children and young people, and those providing education and skills for learners of all ages.

Ofsted inspectors check the quality of teaching and learning, the behaviour and safety of pupils, the achievement of pupils and the leadership and management of the school.

Church of England schools are also regularly inspected under a process called the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS).  These inspections focus on the ethos and leadership of the school as a Church school.
